Abstract

The rim sherds of two mortars from Straubing in Raetia record the two pottery stamps > (centuriae) IVLIANI SECVRVS and FECIT. The potter Securus was an active soldier and served in the century of Iulianus. Presumably, he produced these mortars in the period from 70 to 170/180 AD in the southern vicus of the eastern fort of Sorviodurum.
