Abstract

The Research of the Archaeologists from Iaşi on the Neolithic and Chalcolithic Periods in Moldavia During the Period 1949-1999

The author presents the main achievements from 1949-1999 period of the archaeologists from Iaşi who made researches on the Neolithic and Chalcolithic from Moldavia can be identified. Several investigation directions during the years 1949-1999, intense prospecting activities, were carried out on the basis of which several catalogue-type works were elaborated. The first half of the period had as main achievements the famous excavations from Truşeşti and Cucuteni, the descovery of the new Criş, Linear Pottery and Globular Amphora Cultures. Important contributions were made to the division into periods and the chronology of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic from Moldavia culminating with the ‘Niţu division into periods’. After 1985 researchers made several C14 datings, a radiocarbon data list being realized. An important contribution to a better knowledge of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic from Moldavia was made by the archaeozoologists, archaeobotanists and anthropologists from Iaşi. Studies on the arts and religion  of the neolithic and chalcolithic populations were also made. During the past 50 years of our analysis the archaeologists from Iaşi, together with their colleagues from Bucureşti and from other museums in the country have turned Moldavia into the region with the most complete investigation researches from Romania. The author of this article underlines the important part which Professor Mircea Petrescu-Dîmboviţa has played in the development of the neolithic and chalcolithic research from Moldavia.
