Abstract
Archaeological excavations took place in the old cemetery of the village Joldești (Botoșani county) in 1989. Joldești village is mentioned in medieval documents in 1433 and 1620-1621. The cemetery had no other traces at the surface (wooden traces) but the gravestones. Fifty-two graves have been researched. They were orientated west-cast and they often contained more skeletons. Sometimes the coffins of the dead were also found. The studios revealed that there was a Romanian cemetery from the 15th-19th ccnturies. The graves and the things discovered proved that the cemetery belonged to a modest peasant population. The inventory consists of metal and glass objects (fig. 8), as well as coins (figs. 9-10), which confirms the suggested chronology. A special case is a fibula from the lst-2nd centuries A.D. discovered in the cemetery which shows the existence in this place of an early Daco-Roman level.
