Abstract

Open Access (OA) has become a topic of discussion in Archaeology, due to the recent increase in OA mandates around the world. To add to the on-going conversation about OA this paper presents an evaluation of the problems OA is attempting to solve. It will demonstrate that too many publications and publication venues are causing the issues that are driving forward the need for Open Access. The purpose of this paper is to help archaeologists understand why changes are occurring in Archaeology publishing so as to help create a strategy for the future
