Abstract

The negative ethical valuation of senses in Homer and pagan antiquity undergoes a Christian reinterpretation in the autos sacramentales: There is a devaluation of the external and the here and now on behalf of the internal and of the hereafter. In his autos sacramentales, Calderón develops an epistemological model based on his conception of external and internal senses, of reason, of the power of the soul and of Christianity.
