Abstract

In the Hessian Archive Marburg the author found a record concerning the new uniform of the two hessian dragoon regiments. It dates form the year 1789 and it contents a description of the new sword, respective sabre, for the troopers and officers. A troopers weapon was found in private collection some years ago, the sabre for the officers is presented for the public in Museum Schloß Friedrichstein, Bad Wildungen, since 1981. The officer pattern in this article is the private sword of Landgraf Wilhelm IX and is first published in this article. Characteristic for this sword is the solid shell with the chiffre WL and the petty curve of the blade à la Montmorency .
