Abstract

In the first three months of 2018 the author found two hanoverian hunting hanger blades, about 1750, with different hilts. The first blade with a Brunswik (dukedom) hilt was published in WKK 1/18. The second blade, also from the reign of Georg II., about 1750, is hilted with the pattern for royal hanoverian lower forester ranks, about 1830. The crossguard is little variant to the ordnance pattern of hunting hangers for „Förster“-ranks. On the outside blade, near the quillon block the etched GR is visible and inside the royal british-hanoverian arms pre 1801. Both sides of the blade show hunting scenes. During the reign of George III, respective the Prince Regent in Hanover 1816, the color of uniform lacing and hunting hanger hilt changed from silver to gold. One can see this definitly on uniform paintings of an Oberförster (ranger), about 1833, during the reign of William IV. King of Great-Britain and Hannover.
