Abstract
Two egded weapons, a small sword and a saber were found with names etched on their blades. The silver hilted small sword (Hilt 112 by A. V. B. Norman) bears the Name GEORG/ PHILIP/GOTTSCHALCK and the Hessen-Kassel coat of arms on the blade. According to family tradition, the blade and scabbard was a gift of Johann Wilhelm Grah in Solingen to his cousin surgeon Georg Philipp Gottschalck in the Infantry regiment von Biesenrodt in Hanau in 1805. The saber is marked on the blade the name Jac. Ramspeck/1814 and Hessischer./Landwehr. In the archive of Darmstadt this name was found by the author in a little booklet with the names of all officers of the 2nd Landwehr Army Corps of Hessen-Darmstadt. Jakob Ramspeck is listed as a second lieutenant in the 25th Landwehr Regiment, 1st. Bataillon, 1816. Gerhard Jakob Ramspek later on became major of the town Alsfeld/Hessen. The saber hilt is an interesting combination of french empire style elements with a ‚German‘ lion head pommel. The saber was made in Solingen.
