Abstract

General data regarding the archaeological theory in the former USSR

This paper presents a short image of the evolution of the archaeological theory in the former USSR. The beginning and the end of our work show the research situation before and after the soviet state, in order to integrate the main subject into a larger framework. The development of the archaeological theory is accompanied by the institutional evolution. The final remark generalizes the soviet archaeological thought and compares it with that of the American and West European schools.
