Abstract
The education and outreach team at the Ethnologisches Museum and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst created a diverse, interpersonal program that takes a multi-perspective and critical approach to the diverse collection of the two museums in the Humboldt Forum. The focus is on communicating the content of the various focal points of the collections, the colonial past of the objects, provenance and restitution issues and international cooperation to research the collections,
as well as raising awareness of the specific nature of the Humboldt Forum as a partially reconstructed Prussian palace. The team works with a diverse pool of around 45 freelance educators to prepare the museum’s themes and conduct the numerous guided tours, workshops and events. The text provides examples of collaboration with the National Museum Benin City and with refugees from
Ukraine and explains how concrete collaborative processes and formats in the field of education and
outreach can look like and what challenges arise in the processes.
