Richtlinien für Autor/innen

Initial Submission

•All papers must be submitted in electronic format by email to the Editor (editor@eth.uni-heidelberg.de)

•To facilitate both review and formatting for publication, all submissions must be made in the form of a standard MS Word file (.doc, .docx or .rtf).

•All information identifying the Author should be removed from the manuscript prior to its submission.

•Submissions should be between 7,000 and 12,000 words; in special circumstances, both shorter and longer submissions will be considered.

•Initial submissions may be made following any standard set of scholarly conventions (e.g., APA, Harvard, Chicago).

•If accepted for publication, the Author will be responsible for bringing the manuscript into line with the citational and other conventions employed in the Series (see below).

•The author is expected to ensure that her or his manuscript is written in correct English or German.

•The Editorial Board will not consider manuscripts that require extensive corrections of a grammatical or stylistic nature.

•Authors submitting manuscripts in a language other than their native language are strongly advised to request proofreading assistance from a qualified native speaker prior to the initial submission of the manuscript.

Formatting, Spelling, Punctuation

•Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout, including all footnotes and the bibliography.

•Use one standard font (Times, Helvetica, Palatino etc) throughout the manuscript.

•Do not indent the first line of a new paragraph.

•Formatting should more generally be kept to a minimum; this is to facilitate the eventual reformatting of the manuscript for publication in the Series.

•In the case of English-language submission, follow the American variant of English spelling (color, practice, program).

•All foreign terms should be italicized, except in the case of extensive quotation.

•Use standard diacritics for the transliteration of foreign scripts and languages.

•Do not use italics for emphasis.

•Provide a parenthetical explanation of abbreviations at their first occasion of use. For instance, the first occurrence of the abbreviation “TNI” would be followed immediately by the parenthetical gloss “(Tentara Nasional Indonesia).”

•In-text quotations should be placed within ‘single quotation marks’, and quotes within quotes should appear within “double quotation marks.”

•Quotations of more than 50 words should be indented.

In-Text Citation

•In-text citations should appear within brackets as follows: (Leach 1954: 17).

•Citations of a more complex nature (e.g., from archival sources, or from more than two separate publications) should appear in a footnote at the bottom of the same page.

•Always provide precise page references, and avoid terms such as f., ff., ibid., op. cit. and loc. sit.

•References directing the reader to other parts of the manuscript should refer to the section, not to the page number.

Photographs and Illustrations

•Every effort will be made to reproduce all illustrations, photographs and other figures at the appropriate point in the manuscript.

•It is the author’s responsibility to secure copyright permission for all illustrations, photographs and other figures reproduced in the manuscript.

Bibliography

•In addition to in-text and footnoted citations, a complete bibliography must be included at the end of the manuscript.

•The formatting of the bibliography should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style of citation.
