Abstract
International Exhibition of Intensional Architecture “Terra-2”
In the summer of 1981, the second and last in the series of International Exhibitions of Intentional Architecture took place in Wrocław, the originator of which was Stefan Müller, an architect and architecture theoretician. Both exhibitions (Terra-1 was organized in 1975) aimed to articulate the most current, according to the participants, problems that architecture and urbanism face in relation to the material, including the biological environment of man. They grew out of the tradition of the outdoor-symposium movement characteristic for the 1960s and 1970s in Poland. A key role in their organization was played by Müller’s fascination with conceptualism understood as a way of thinking leading to a ‘zero situation’, and therefore leading to the redefinition of his discipline, in this case architecture. Wrocław’s specific genius loci also did not remain indifferent, especially the participants in these ventures, who considered these exhibitions to complement its pioneering architectural and urban history after 1945. The political events of the years 1980–1981 were also reflected in Terra-2. There were 149 works from 23 countries sent to Terra-2, but most of them have not been completely preserved.
