Preserving movable objects in the State Memorial of Auschwitz Birkenau

Movable objects in the holds of former Nazi concentration camps with the exception of archival material, have not attracted the same attention as buildings and other immovable installations. Basic considerations on the handling of historic material evidence of the Holocaust and the experiences in the conservation of movable objects are discussed with reference to the collections of the State Memorial Auschwitz Birkenau. These experiences were gained during the annual work excursions of the University of Applied Sciences Cologne since 1993.
