Abstract

Examination of the Crouched Burial Vb 133 of Rössen in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum

This article focuses on the investigation of a stone-aged crouched burial (inventory number Vb 133) in the Early History Collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg. The crouched burial created a stir in connection with the reinstallation work of the archaeological collection, which included a check-up of all objects. The result of routine cleaning lead to new questions which found answers through the application visual investigation methods including conventional radiography, medical radiography and computer tomography. Summing up it may be said that the “in situ“ recovery of the burial provides a good example on how the application of visual investigation methods accomplish and restrict each other.
