The Melzow Altar. The Restoration of the Renaissance Retable of 1610
The altarpiece created in 1610 in the church to Melzow belongs to a group of Renaissance altarpieces and pulpits of controversial provenance. Many other examples exist in the region of Prenzlau. Alteration and overpainting in past centuries had changed the appearance of the initially very colourful altarpiece in Melzow. In addition, the support and frame had been damaged. The restoration between 2005 and 2007 uncovered the original polychrome appearance. The project was financially supported by a highly committed local foundation.
