Abstract

Metal Effect Threads of the Twentieth Century. Identification and Analysis of Laminated Metal Threads
The manufacturing of modern metal threads using aluminum foil or metalized plastic films laminated with synthetic materials started in the early twentieth century. Various products from different kinds of materials were produced and sold with names such as Lurex or Cellometal. In this article the structure of the threads and their materials are being defined. Examination of the threads and methods for the identification of their materials are being reviewed. The article is based on the diploma thesis of the author written in 2011 at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne.
