Professor Dr. Peter Klein is known worldwide for the determination of authenticity and age of panel paintings using dendrochronology. In the course of his work, he has examined and measured over 6000 wooden panels and other objects of art and determined their types of wood. Thus, he has also had a significant influence on the work of numerous restorers. During his employment at the Centre of Wood Economy at the University of Hamburg and today’s Thünen Institute, he has become a unique expert through numerous publications, papers and lectures on dendrochronology. Many teaching assignments at several universities and close collaboration with restorers have made him a much sought-after researcher, and he has made a lasting commitment to establishing education programs in the field of restoration/conservation at universities.
