Abstract

Art Technological and Art Historic Considerations of the Preparation and Use of Animal and Plant Fibres in Primers and Putties.
Examples of Fine and Applied Arts Coloured wool threads arising in the production of wool cloth from the late Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century were used in various ways. The use of animal and vegetable fibres in the primer of sculpture was thought to increase its elasticity and result in an enhanced cohesion. Similarly, vegetable fibres were used in lining of joints in panel paintings. Furthermore, the use of wool fibres is described for the recovery of dies, for the production of flock wallpapers, flock tapisseries and velour wallpapers.
