Method for treatment of unfired and fired clay tablets – Yesterday and today

Subject of this essay is the treatment of unfired and fired clay tablets. It gives an insight into the history of clay tablet conservation during the last hundred years discusses and the problems involved in the treatment of these objects, as well as the excavating and following treatments. The firing of clay tablets in order to facilitate subsequent desalination is a main point of research in these essays. Therefore it contains previous studies and their results to the compound of the clay and there behaviour at firing. This data was supported with a test procedure to the behaviour of chalky clay. Another main stress was the identification and the removal of the black spots present on clay tablets.
