“Land Reform – A Tuning Point in Germany” by Prof. Arno Mohr 1956. The Restoration of a Mural in the College of Art in Berlin-Weißensee
One of the most significant works of the Kunst am Bau (Art in Architecture) Period of the GDR was thoroughly restored in 2011 on the occasion of the reconstruction of the main hall of the College of Art in Berlin-Weißensee. Its foyer is enriched by this large mural. Over many months, the conservators Perette Manz-Hendrich, Martina Runge, and Katrin Striezel eliminated serious damage and restored the original brightness of its colours. The decision in favour of a complete restoration was made during tough negotiations between the owner of the mural and the project’s architect, in order to abet further damage.
