Examination of the Remnants of a Precious Headdress from a Late Roman Woman’s Grave
Remains of textile burial findings are often removed from the grave context and are examined outside the archaeological site. This complicates the interpretation of the finds significantly. Finds taken in block allow not only a better comprehension of the site context but also the recording of the object in its undisturbed context and an interpretation of the information delivered from it. In my study a methodologydally, systematic and non destructive registration was carried out with the help of radiographic investigation methods using block excavation. This study deals with a Late Roman headdress consisting of glass, metal, bone and textile components. The investigation contains a comprehensive analysis of the individual components as well as a registration of the importance of the funding including an attempt of reconstruction.
