The Nicolai Altar from the former Nicolai Church in Grimma
The late medieval winged altar was restored between 2004 and 2007. The reason for its treatment was the damage caused by earlier interventions, necessitating comprehensive retouching. The paintings of the two wings originate from around the Cranach workshop, the provenance of the sculpures remains unknown. The results obtained on the provenance and history of the retable is described below.
