Deimos – Journal for Ancient Military History

About the Journal

The Diamond Open Access Online Journal DEIMOS is a publication platform for contributions on all areas of ancient military history. In accordance with the concept of the “new military history,” this includes all aspects of ancient culture related to warriors, war or armed conflicts, as well as weapons and armor. The military and its facets are the core theme, which can be examined from different perspectives, such as political, cultural, social, reception, and legal history or discourse analysis. In addition to contributions from historical sciences, those from an archaeological perspective are also welcomed. The journal’s chronological focus is on classical antiquity, from Greek Archaic to Late Antiquity, but contributions dealing with other cultural areas of the ancient world, as well as with Iron Age or early medieval topics, can also be included.

Submitted contributions undergo a double-blind peer review process and, once accepted, are published online successively within a short period. After one year, the volume for that year is closed. This ensures a rapid publication following the review process. Publication is free of charge. Please refer to the publication guidelines below and under “About Us/Submissions” for details on manuscript design. The journal offers the possibility to integrate or append any number of high-resolution black-and-white and color illustrations in the contributions. Contributions are published as PDFs, and the additional publication of extensive research data via Propylaeum@heiDATA is possible.

The editorial team, consisting of Christian Barthel, Lennart Gilhaus, and Michael Zerjadtke, is supported by the Heidelberg University Library. For inquiries, please contact Lennart Gilhaus (lennart.gilhaus@hu-berlin.de)
