Abstract
I do not like closed systems. Daria Skok talks to Stach Ruksza
In the interview Daria Skok talks to Stach Ruksza, an art historian, curator and art critic. The latter analyses his experiences acquired as art director of the Center of Contemporary Art in Bytom (2008–2017) and in the Trafostation of Art in Szczecin (2017 – today). Issues of the erstwhile “engaged art” and neo-avant-garde, identity constructions and mainstream historic narrations of the so called „Recovered Lands” under communism are at stake. Ruksza refers to his own biographical experiences and the history of his family, originally from the trans-border (German-Polish) areas. The interlocutors’ case study – Unemployed, a participatory work of art by Rafał Jakubowicz shown in the Center of Contemporary Art in Bytom in 2012 – focused on many virtues and doubts of the nowadays “artivism”, its engagement in current political and social problems.
