Abstract

After Avant-Garde. Is the Jewish Avant-Garde of the bBginning of the Twenties Have Influenced the Yiddish Visual Univers in Poland

In the paper I explore the impact of the Jewish/Yiddish Avant-Garde Art on the popular Jewish art In Roland, especially the print culture (journals, book covers, posters) and In a larger sense I ask if these outstandings pieces of art were reflected In the Jewish Visual sphere, if they became part of the Jewish Visual Univers - symbolic representation of the nation, its history, culture, and place in Roland, Europe and In the world; how the popular secular Yiddish culture formed its own vision (Yiddish iconosphere) drawing on the traditional Jewish folk art and Avant-Garde Art expierence. The language of Art in the Avant-Garde journals: Yung Yiddish (Young Yiddish), Ringen, Khalyastre (The Gang), Albatros was the visual equivalen of new language in yiddish literature and theatre. The artists: Henryk Berlewi, Władysław Weintraub, Izrael Tykociński, Hercke Goldszlak, Chaim Hanf had proposed a new, popular visual language of Art and Iconography showed links between Jewish religious tradition and modernity. Inspired by the Avant-Garde they proposed the new use of "Jewish Idiom" in the popular art wchich was understood, accepted and attractive for the Jewish mass public. The long duration of this Idiom ended in the thirties but exhaustion of avant-garde paradigm distinctly give notice in midyear twentieth. [Sic!]
