Abstract

Ignacy Bogdanowicz — an innovator, a promotor and an artist

Ignacy Bogdanowicz (1920–1989) was educated at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. He co-organised the legendary “1st International Koszalin Study on Plein-Air Arts” in Osieki in 1963. His participation in the “plein-airs” [meetings of artists who paint or perform other artistic activities outdoor] forged long-term friendships with Marian Bogusz, Henryk Stażewski, Henryk Berlewi, Tadeusz Kantor and Bożena Kowalska. During the first half of the 1960’s, Bogdanowicz created unilateral reliefs and in the second half of the decade her focused on innovative, abstract, small bilateral reliefs while in the next decade he managed to enlarge his compositions and exhibit in the public space. During the 7th “plein-air” in Osieki, Bogdanowicz presented a spatial from, which was published in the “Odra” magazine magazine in 1970. He co-organised “The Symposium on Spatial Forms Ustka 1972” and designed, as part of the symposium, a spatial form on the beach. Ignacy Bogdanowicz contributed to founding “The House of Creative Works” in Ustka in 1946, and — in 1974 — the Gallery “The New Gate” in Słupsk.
