Quartär – Internationales Jahrbuch zur Erforschung des Eiszeitalters und der Steinzeit
About the Journal
During the congress of the International Quaternary Association in Vienna in 1936, the lack of a publication series dealing with the Palaeolithic was regretted. Lothar Zotz took up this suggestion and in 1938, together with Rudolf Grahmann, an internationally renowned geologist, published the first volume of the Quatär yearbook. This makes Quatär, at least according to its founders, the first internationally renowned archaeological journal with a focus on the 'Palaeolithic' and 'Geology of the Ice Age'. The main focuses have remained until today, although the spectrum has been expanded by the 'Mesolithic'.
