Abstract

Diagrams to Document Walls which have Collapsed – a Comparison of Different Survey-Methods for a Special Archaeological Feature

On an excavation site drawings to document walls which have collapsed or fallen over in coherent units pose particularly demands. To assess the suitability of different survey-methods in practice, the author compared various proceedings in his paper. The time spent for completing the drawing of a plan, the accuracy achieved and the quality of the obtained graphical model were taken into consideration. The field examination took place on a test area at the excavation of the villa rustica of Nassenfels, Lkr. Eichstätt/Bavaria. The following contribution describes the concept and the results of this comparison leading to recommendations for the practical work.
