Abstract

Prevention of airborne pollutants in display cases at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum – successes and compromises
For many years the Institute for Art Technology and Conservation at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg has been developing a preventive strategy to reduce airborne pollutants in museum display cases. As a part of the bidding process for new cases, an internal “profile of requirements for display cases” stipulates preselected construction materials as well as final control measurement procedures. This article shows the successes and compromises of the preventive strategy at the GNM based on recent examples.
