Abstract

Analysis, conservation and restoration of the stony renaissance-decor in the dome of Güstrow
This paper focuses on the comprehensive examination of the Renaissance stone furnishing in Güstrow Cathedral by scientists, engineers und conservators between 2007 and 2013. They dealt with the construction, material und damage of the Ulrich monument, the Borwin tumba and monument, the Dorothee epitaph, the pulpit and the baptismal font, and were supplemented by additional expert opinions on paints and style, on fungus and damaging materials, on petrography, on detection of hidden metal components using thermography, endoscopic examination, super sonic and radar, as well as laboratory analyses of salts, mortars, pigments and binding media. The subsequently applied measures dealt with securing and stabilisation the furnishing. The relevance of the methods are discussed.
