Abstract
Paraloid - Melting plates for glass additions
In 2010, an unusually large glass find was recovered from a 1 m³ large pit in the Franciscan monastery in Wittenberg. After the glass fragments had been assembled into countless laboratory instruments, the so-called "Alchemist's Workshop of Wittenberg" was set up. During the restoration of the finds, which lasted almost two years, questions arose repeatedly about the completion and stabilization of the fragmentarily preserved glasses. The addition of solvent-casted Paraloid B-72 plates to fill areas of loss was tested in various experiments, but did not show completely satisfactory results. The newly developed method of producing glass supplements using directly melted Paraloid granulate is presented in this article.
