Abstract

Restoration of stoves at hunting castle and Fasanenschlösschen of Moritzburg
In the Moritzburg hunting lodge and pheasant castle there are several faience stoves in various states of preservation. During the renovation of rooms, it was decided to restore the corresponding stoves. In order to work on the stoves, it was necessary to dismantle them and transport them to the workshop. All the ovens are still heavily sooted and dirty inside. There are dirt deposits and damages on the surfaces. The cast iron fireboxes are still stable except for minor rust deposits. During the restoration measures, after cleaning with running water and solvents, the ceramic and glaze damage could be stabilized again with the stabilizing agent Paraloid B72 and an epoxy resin for bonding. All old restorations on the cast iron surfaces were also removed and newly conserved. The reconstruction of the stoves was carried out according to the monument preservation aspects of the respective rooms without reuse as radiators due to the condition of the ceramics.
