Abstract

Papier Mâché – Esamination of a Series of Reliefs Representing Johann Friedrich, Saxon Elector
This paper offers a survey of historic recipes and techniques from the 15th and 16th centuries for the production of papier mâché. The main focus is directed on two reliefs of John Frederick I, Elector of Saxony. The art technology of these two objects was analyzed, and they were compared to each other. Based on the theoretical work, tests with papier mâché were carried out. The feasibility of the techniques was shown, the experiments added to our technological expertise.
