Resumen
This article examines works by the Brazilian artist Adriana Varejão produced in close dialog to the Brazilian Baroque. The hypothesis of this text is that through the visual work of Varejão it is possible to revisit a series of seminal moments in the cultural history of Brazil traversed by violence and sensuality. Divided into three parts, this text argues that Varejão’s production allows new readings of the encounter between native cultures and the Portuguese early settlers, the sexual violence of slavery, and the creation of a State Baroque stemming from the construction of Brasilia.
