Considering what may have been the relationship between the remnants of a mangled medieval sepulchre and the painfully apparent losses, between what is and what was, and in the conviction that this cannot have been accidental, but was purposeful and essential, arises the vision of an inordinate design, a splendid piece, a conceptual, theological, and poetic gesamtkunstwerk.
