Abstract
IWONA KALUZA / New identity. A contribution to research on the example of the architecture of the “Pafawag” State Rail Coach Factory in Wroclaw
The “Pafawag” State Rail Coach Factory was the first plant to be opened in post-war Wroclaw, one of the most important enterprises producing rolling stock, and at the same time a place of work for the population arriving in Wroclaw after 1945. Based on the history of the factory, the article is an attempt to define the new identity created after the World War II in the Recovered Territories. By means of a few selected examples from the field of architecture, the issues of the adaptation of post-German buildings and their adjustment to the needs of the time are addressed, as well as the construction of new buildings which, as a result of the process of humanisation of work, turned out to be objects of importance for the employees of this plant. The historical landscape outlined in the text is an example of the influence of the workplace on the area – in this case the “Pafawag” State Rail Coach Factory – on the new identity in post-war Wroclaw.
