Vol. 61 (2020): Matthias Meier: Gründung und Reform erinnern. Die Geschichte des Klosters Muri aus der Perspektive hochmittelalterlicher Quellen
This study analyses the founding and reform of Muri monastery from the perspective of high medieval sources and regards it from a cultural memory point of view. Twelfth-century sources pass down memories of Muri’s history but at the same time remain silent on certain aspects; it is therefore explored whether there are moments of instrumentalisation of memory and strategies of interpretation are determined. In doing so, it turns out that the monastery’s past is closely connected with the history of the early Habsburgs, who operated in the Burgundian-Swabian border area, and at the same time Muri’s history is embedded in the institutional and ecclesiastical-political context of the high medieval Roman-German Empire.
