Abstract
The settlement on the Krautacker of Sopron was situated on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl in the Ödenburg Bassin, western Hungary, in a special favorable environment. The Iron Age settlement began in the Late Hallstatt and continued until the Early La Tène period and even later. In the Early La Tène period the method and intensity of manufacture transformed, especially concerning the ceramic production. These changes relate to the introduction of the fast rotating potter’s wheel. The settlement features were arranged in groups around courtyards, which consisted of pits, pit houses and post constructions. In Lt B1 the settlement area moved slightly towards northwest, where new sections were inhabited. At the same time the territorial settlement structure changed to become more functional.
