Abstract

In the course of maintenance and extension works, fragments of two leather shoes were found underground in a late medieval working extraction drift of the Teufelsgrund mine south of Freiburg i. Br. These are discussed in the context of evidence from other mines and surface sites in Germany, the Netherlands and England as well as contemporary medieval depiction of shoes.
