Die Stichel vom Magdalénien-Fundplatz Oelknitz (Saale-Holzland-Kreis)

Abstract

The attributes of the more than 200 burins from the Magdalenian site Oelknitz are presented in this contribution. The interpretation of the attributes indicates that a concept was in use by which the point of a large tool is produced and reworked by combining truncation and stroke of a burin. As the product of certain phases of reworking a type of tool appeared that we today call Lacan burin. Lacan burins would consequently not be specifically produced instruments but the rare by-products of a particular concept to modify large and pointed tools.
