Abstract

Arrow shaft smoothers are a type of tools which only appear in Palaeolithic finds in greater numbers from the late glacial period onwards. Starting in the late Magdalenian especially the region north of the Central European Upland Range presents numerous finds of this type of tools. The »grinder with a groove« from the open air site Oberweiherhaus is the first polisher from south Germany which clearly comes from a late Palaeolithic context.
