Abstract

A shouldered point found in the Wauwilermoss, Central Switzerland, is an extraordinary unique find because it is made of rock crystal. Shouldered points commonly occur in the late Magdalenian of Southern Central Europe, however, in the Swiss Plateau there were found mainly in the Wauwilermoos. Rock crystal was relatively frequently used in the Stone Age Swiss Plateau. It seems to have been specifically extracted in the Central Alps and transported for instance for a distance of c. 50 km to the Wauwilermoos. Mostly, unrolled and even complete facetted crystals are found. Therefore, it is very unlikely that the crystal pieces could originate from the moraines.
