Abstract

In 2016 three Hallstatt barrows with five burials were investigated due to road building activities. Special attention has to be paid to a robbed wagon grave of the period Ha C / D1 which contained an exceptional figurine. An anthropomorphic figure is sitting on a horse with two heads. The best parallels are known from Central and Upper Italy and date to the second half of the 8th and first half of the 9th century BC. This grave demonstrates that local elites were present, already before the Heuneburg was built, in the periphery of the Bussen mountain, in about 11 km distance. However, some exceptional burials also date to the time of the Heuneburg during the periods Ha D1 to Ha D3.
