Identifiers (Article)
Abstract
The votive inscriptions from Roman Cologne enable a specific insight into the religiosity of the inhabitants. Persons with Ubian identity dedicated such inscriptions, too. These inscriptions were sampled and analyzed according to the deities worshipped. Regarding problems of the sources and methodology, it is shown that the indigenous people dedicated mainly to the Matronae and Roman state cults. This result is associated with questions about society structures, integration and Germanic religion.
