Abstract
Armament with Repair Traces in the Late Pre-Roman Iron Age from Przeworsk and Oksywie Cultures Contexts
Among the armament of the Przeworsk and Oksywie cultures there is a relatively small group of weaponry with traces of repairs or remakes. In most cases, the hilts of one- and double-edged swords were repaired, sometimes the blades of the swords are provided with a secondary formed point. The metal scabbards of double-edged swords have repaired suspension loops, the front and back sheets were rarely repaired. Several shield-bosses have secondary inserted spikes, others have repaired domes and irregularly arranged rivet holes. The majority of the repairs of the double-edged swords and their metal scabbards is of amateurish character and the mentioned artefacts were most probably not repaired in professional workshops. We assume that the people who use these weapons did not have access to specialist craftsmen. The double-edged swords and theirs metal scabbards were probably imported.
