Abstract

Notes on the Magdalenian and the Late Palaeolithic in Thuringia

14 of the 50 archaeological sites dating to the Weichselian Late Glacial in Thuringia were reexamined. They are single finds, assemblages with only few objects and complexes with artefacts from various periods. Although small, Hummelshain, Großpürschütz and Gorsleben are typical assemblages for the Late Magdalenian, while Renthendorf most likely presents the late Palaeolithic period. Furthermore, it is discussed whether the presence of a single burin indicates a late Young Palaeolithic tool as hitherto assumed.
