Abstract

Investigations of a Possible fullonica in the Civilian Town of Carnuntum

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archaeology conducted a geophysical survey of the archaeological landscape of Carnuntum (Bez. Bruck an der Leitha/A) in the course of the »ArchPro Carnuntum« project. The data revealed anomalies, situated in the western part of the civilian town, that may be interpreted as a Roman fullonica (fuller’s workshop). The present paper focuses on the presentation of the data and their interpretation in the context of recent research on fullonicae in the Roman world as well as on the textile economy in the northern Provinces.
