Abstract

The Gold in Grave 505 at Hallstatt

In grave 505 at Hallstatt (dated Ha D1), the gold fibula raises interesting problems of identification. A recent technical examination led to revise its alleged Greek origin and initiated a wider investigation of the other gold items later attributed to the same grave. Some doubt has been expressed regarding the coherence of the assemblage, but the question has not really been addressed so far. So, here we have an opportunity to further investigate and propose some hypotheses.
