Abstract

A Bog Skeleton of the Roman Iron Age from Schleswig-Holstein – New Investigations into the Find from Kühsen (Kr. Herzogtum Lauenburg)

The well-known bog bodies of the Roman Iron Age in Schleswig-Holstein are from the viewpoint of archaeology and research history a category of finds of international significance. In the case of an interdisciplinary new examination of the bog skeleton from Kühsen (Kr. Herzogtum Lauenburg), found in 1960, an aDNA investigation, an isotope analysis and a 14C result could be attained for the first time. Together with the results of the anthropological analysis and a review of the archaeological context, the bog skeleton of Kühsen can be placed within the context of the Schleswig-Holstein and Northern European bog bodies.
