Abstract

The Magdalenian site Kesslerloch had been excavated more than 100 years ago. A recent re-analysis of the faunal remains yielded a number of interesting discoveries, among them a reindeer mandible with an embedded flint fragment. It was possible to be shown that this flint was part of the lateral blades of a composite projectile point. Remarkably, the reindeer survived the injury by almost two weeks.
